Chicago Events Calendar

Anybody in Chicago interested in music, art, theatre, film, food, or drink, should have a packed Chicago events calendar. On any given night in this city, there is an absolute bounty of activities including: concerts, gallery shows, readings, and new restaurants and bars to explore. Chicago, long considered the Second City, is seeing a renaissance in its cocktail culture, and in its local music scene, that rivals anything New York has to offer. Turn off the Netflix, hit the streets, and add some Chicago events to your calendar.

The Logan Square neighborhood is a hotspot for Chicago’s burgeoning cocktail scene. Steps from the Logan Square Blue Line stop, visit Longman & Eagle, a gastropub, designed to be a neighborhood destination, offering breakfast, lunch, dinner, and a stunning of array of whiskey. They have 148 different whiskeys available, and a diverse menu that ranges from Pork Belly Confit, to a Pretzel.

A five minute walk down the block and you’ll find the Whistler, if you can find it. The bar uses its storefront windows to feature new artists every other month, so each time you visit, its facade may have changed. The Whistler focuses on reasonably priced craft cocktails, has a comfortable back patio, and programs live music, DJs, and special events every night of the week. A few nights at the Whistler are a must on anybody’s Chicago events calendar. Emerging clubs like the Whistler make great supplements to more mainstream venues like House Of Blues Chicago and Congress Theatre Chicago.

A great addition to your Chicago events calendar is Logan Square’s cocktail lounge, Scofflaw. Located a bit farther southwest in the neighborhood, Scofflaw is a gin-centered bar, that also offers reasonably priced small plates to pair with your cocktail. Designed to feel both Victorian and modern, Scofflaw is a beautiful space, definitely a destination to add to your events calendar.

Chicago is also home to a vibrant music scene, with a calendar consistently packed with exciting events. If you are looking for rock or folk music, the best sounding room in the city is Schubas. Located in the Lakeview neighborhood, Schubas consistently books talented national touring acts and great local music, generally focusing on Americana. Be sure to come early and visit the restaurant attached to the club, the Harmony Grill.

If you’d like your night out to be a little more rocking in your Chicago events calendar, a little more seedy type of bar, and closer to the heart of the scene, head to the Empty Bottle. With a charming awning that reads “Music Friendly Dancing”, the Empty Bottle is in Chicago’s Ukrainian Village neighborhood and boasts a calendar flush with the city’s best garage rock, psych, and indie rock.

Though the bar has been open for about four years, the Burlington, in Logan Square, just began hosting live music three months ago. The music room small, but the sound is good and the booking is consistently strong, mining the best of Chicago’s underground music scene. Many Chicago shows are under ten bucks and drinks are cheap, it is a great place to see a new up-and-comer in a very intimate environment. So get out there, fill up your Chicago events calendar. Come on, get out on the town!
